I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for your generosity and kind wishes when I left East Craigs on the 5th February.  After 18 years and the most fantastic send off, I have many wonderful memories.

Very best wishes to all the Staff, Pupils and Families,
Gillian O'Rourke.

The hankies will be out on Friday 5th February as we say goodbye to Mrs Gillian O'Rourke, as she leaves us to move to Cramond Primary School, as their new Depute Headteacher.  We know our families join us in wishing her all the best.

January 2010

Thursday 7th January

7.40 a.m. UPDATE

School is OPEN today

Pathways near the school are very slippy.  We have cleared a path in through the playground which has been gritted.  Please make sure the children are warmly dressed and have a change of shoes.

Thank you again for your understanding yesterday.

WEDNESDAY 6TH JANUARY

UPDATE-  WEDNESDAY 6TH JANUARY

THE SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED TODAY.

We apologise for the late notice - please listen to Radio Forth tomorrow morning and we will do our best to get information out as soon as possible.  This website will also be updated on Thursday 7th at 8 a.m.

We have been told that we have been added to a priority list for our area being gritted.

Staff waited this morning at all gates and paths to meet unaccompanied children.  Any child who was not with an adult was brought into school and parents were called.  We have learned however, that some children turned back, having met other parents or children.  Please explain to your child that if they walk to school alone or with friends that they MUST continue to school so that our staff may contact you.

We are looking forward to seeing our pupils on Wednesday 6th January at 8.50 a.m.  Nursery a.m. group restarts on Thursday 7th however .... but we'll see the Nursery p.m. class on Wednesday too!

We are all very aware that the weather has been very exciting over the holidays .... PLEASE make sure that your child is suitably dressed to return to school.  The playground has 6 inches of snow, so please send the children in warm coats and wellies!

Please check Radio Forth in the mornings over the next few weeks, if the snowy weather continues, as school closures are announced there.

Primary 1 enrolments

If your child was born between 01/03/05 and 28/02/06 they will be eligible to start Primary 1 in August 2010.

Registration for East Craigs will be taking place between 9.00am and 3.00pm on the following days:

Monday 16th November

Tuesday 17th November

To enrol your child you will need to bring your Council Tax letter from this financial year, a recent utility bill and your child's birth certificate.

You can only enrol at East Craigs if it is your catchment school.  If you are unsure, you can view a map of the school's catchment area by clicking here.  Maps of all catchment areas are available from the Council's main website.

Please note, although there is a consultation process underway for the proposed closure of Drumbrae Primary School, there has been no decision taken.  Therefore, you must enrol at your catchment school as it stands currently.

Bags2School

A huge thank you to all of the families who brought a bag to school on Wednesday 4th for Bags2School.  The PTA will shortly receive information about how heavy our bags were and how much money you have raised for their funds!

And finally ... a big thank you to our lovely P6 and P7 pupils who helped to load the van!

October 2009

Message from the Parent Council - proposed Closure of Drumbrae Primary
As parents are already aware, the East Craigs Parent Council intended to make a submission to the City Council setting out the views of East Craigs parents. Our document was submitted on the due date, just before the mid-term break. It is, by necessity, quite a lengthy document and so we are not providing copies to every parent, however it has been attached to the parent council section of the school website and can be easily downloaded. Alternatively please contact the parent council at
eastcraigspc@live.com and a copy can be emailed.

The next stage in the process is that a report on the closure will be prepared for a full meeting of the Council in mid-December, at which time a decision will be made. Between now and then we, along with our fellow parent councils at Clermiston and Drumbrae, will be continuing to lobby the Councillors.

Homework Challenges

We are delighted that the children and parents are enjoying our Homework Challenges pilot.  We have had wonderful feedback already (and you've only had it for 2 days - woo hoo!).  Parents have shared that they like the fact it's family orientated and they are finding it FUN.  The pupils tell us it's fun too, that they love the active learning and having choices about which piece of work to do!

Autumn Mid Term Holiday

Don't forget - school breaks up on Friday 16th October at the usual time for the Autumn Mid Term holiday.

We look forward to seeing the children on Tuesday 27th October

We are very pleased to say that Miss Finlay will be taking up the post of Acting Head Teacher from Monday 14th September.

We are all very proud of her and look forward to another exciting year ahead.

Mrs MacInnes will be heading off for her secondment to Head Office on Friday 11th September.  We are very proud of her.  She is going to be "Headteacher Support" and is looking forward to visiting lots of Primary Schools in Edinburgh and across Scotland to share good practice with other staff and pupils.  We are looking forward to hearing about all she has learned when she returns in August 2010 .... although she promises to come and see us regularly during this year.

More news about our Acting Headteacher will be sent to parents by the end of this week.

The staff are looking forward to welcoming our pupils back on Wednesday 20th August at 8.50 a.m.

Arrangements for our new Primary One and Nursery pupils are slightly different and parents should refer to the letters they received in June which details the arrangements for their child.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school on 339 7115, if you are unsure of arrangements for your child.
